Designer Knock-offs

Top Row: Versus, Marcelo Burlon, J.W.Anderson for Topshop, Givenchy, Versace for H&M
Bottom Row: Choies

Don't get me wrong, everybody loves it when the highstreet produces a good designer 'inspired' piece at an affordable price, but it's one thing to be inspired by designers, it's completely another to be blatently ripping them off. Until recently, I had never heard of the brand Choies, but I saw it popping up on a few different blogs and thought I'd check it out. At first I thought it was pretty cool, some nice printed shirts and sweats, but then I started to find some pieces that looked far too familiar. I know many highstreet brands have found themselves in trouble for referencing a designer a bit too closely, so I am truly amazed that this website is still trading! As if the designer rip-offs weren't bad enough, I then found this........

Left: American Apparel, Right: Choies

This T-shirt is produced by American Apparel and 15% of the proceeds go towards GLAAD. GLAAD is an organsiation that amplifies the voice of the LGBT community by empowering real people to share their stories, holding the media accountable for the words and images they present, and helping grassroots organizations communicate effectively. How much of the proceeds from the Choies version do you think goes towards a worthy cause?
