The State of Mens Shoes

From Left to Right. Topman Design High Boot, JuJu Maximan Transparent Sandal, Topman Eden Black Leather Monk Shoe, Zara Deconstructed Zip Boot, Zara Leather Biker Boot, Irregular Choice Boom Hologram Boot, Topman Design Zip Shoe, Irregular Choice Future Flux Illuminated Trainer

If you're anything like me, then you have a Love/Hate relationship with shoes. You love shoes, but have a hard time finding decent mens shoes at a decent price. Unless you want to pay hundreds and hundreds of pounds on Solestruck, you're pretty stuck. Why is it that women can buy a holographic brogue or interesting cut out flat for a reasonable price, while men are confronted by a sea of ugly brown loafers? Well it finally looks like the tides are changing, and high street brands are realizing that men want more from their footwear.

The Topman Design collection has recently launched in-store, and with it comes two fantastic shoe designs at a very reasonable price! Available is a shoe and a boot with the laces doubled up each side of a center zip. I'll admit it's hard to see in the images above, but click the links for a better idea. I really like that it's a little bit of unexpected detailing, which makes an otherwise basic shoe more of a statement. Topman also currently have an awesome monk shoe, unusual because instead of the standard buckles, it is done up with seatbelt style silver clasps. Awesome.

I could seriously cry over the JuJu clear sandals. They are amazing. And they are ONLY £15! What a bargain. Unfortunately for me, they are sold out in my size (TYPICAL), hence why I could cry. But it's so refreshing to see something like this available in mens sizes, and they would look super cool worn with a pair of sports socks, or with a cuffed smart trouser.

Zara, as we all know, is the champion of the rip-offs. And I know I'm normally not pro-rip offs, but with boots like these, how could I possibly resist. The deconstructed zip boots are a fantastic Margiella replica, and the biker boots are so Rick Owens I could die. Well done Zara, you done good.

Finally, a bit of a higher price-point brand, but I had to include these two in the list. Irregular Choice is well known for their unusual footwear (Cat shaped heels anyone?!), but their mens offering, for me at least, has always been a bit disappointing.  But these bad boys are a total departure from their usual stuff, and have just the right balance of unusual and wearable. I usually hate trainers too, but these are beyond. The holographic boots are fantastic - I've been looking for a good one ever since Prada released theirs a few seasons ago, but the shoe that really shines (literally) is the light up trainers. I've seen a few bloggers with the Yifang Wan x Samuel Yang light up shoes, but they are never available in a size that'll fit my clown feet. Well Irregular choice have made their own version AND THEY WILL FIT ME! I have already decided these are going to be my Pay Day treat. They are available in both Black and White, AND WILL NEVER LEAVE MY FEET. So yeah, excited much?!

I can only hope that mens footwear continues to improve, so that men will never again wear hideous shoes like these -
