Highstreet Edit : Coats

The weather has taken a major turn for the worse recently and it's absolutely FREEZING! So it's no wonder that my obsession has moved onto coats. With that in mind, here is my edit of the best coats available on the high street right now.

Zara are always a winner when it comes to winter coats, and this year is no exception. Checks are a huge trend, and you can't go wrong with a statement check coat. I especially love the belted trench coat as it has such a nice silhouette. I also love the colour of the beige/grey (greige?) coat in the middle, such a nice bright change from black, but neutral enough to wear with practically everything.

Topman are KILLING IT in the coat department this year, by far my favorite winter coats available on the highstreet. Their drop shoulder cocoon coats are to die for, but the really special pieces come courtesy of the Topman Design collection. The coated wool gives these coats a really unusual, almost leather-like texture, and a fantastic glossy contrast to the soft matt wool. I am, however, totally gutted that the baby blue version if the black coat above, that was shown during LCM, never went into production, because that bad boy was coat perfection.

H&M Don't have a wide selection of coats at the moment, but the ones they have are definitely worth a mention. I think what sets these coats apart from the rest of the highstreet is the extra long length, which makes them feel just that little bit more premium. I especially love the double breasted longline reefer coat above, an excellent staple investment piece.

Asos have a wide selection of coats in a huge variety of styles, from a huge variety of brands. There are some really gorgeous details in the Asos collection, from the raw edges of the black coat on the right, the oversized shape of the first coat above, to the ribbed collar of the navy pea coat - giving it that slightly sporty edge.

River Island

I'm not going to lie, River Island would not normally be my port of call for the perfect winter coat, but this year they have well and truly cracked it. The first coat above is part of the RI Studio collection, and is spot on. With its collarless design, double breasted front and pockets concealed within a seam, this does not feel like your average highstreet coat - this is high end design for a very reasonable price. The longline bomber style coat is another favourite, and such an innovative shape for a winter coat,
