When OPEN set me the challenge of styling up a few pieces from their website there were a few major trends I knew I wanted to try and capture. Much like the dungaree trend, 90's grunge is one of those trends that has kinda been and gone, but is still so close to my heart. So I decided to give the whole 90's grunge thing a more modern update, making it suitable for your wardrobe from now right through into 2015. I started with the key piece that I received from OPEN - The varsity sweatshirt (available here). I love the toweling letters on the front of the sweat as they add some subtle detiling - rather than in your face branding. Check flannels are a major 90's staple so I layered my longline check shirt from ASOS underneath the sweat, and then threw on a leather bike jacket over the top - one which I bought forever ago and have been waiting ages to find the right outfit for! Over my basic black skinnies I wore my half kilt. Kilts have become massive this season thanks to the likes of McQueen championing them for Autumn/Winter, and give a really modern, avant-garde edge to the look. As for footwear, Spring/Summer is ALL about the chunky wedge sole, so to give a nod to that I wore my triple sole creepers from Underground (I've gushed enough about them already, so I'm sure you know how much I love them). Check out the other amazing pieces OPEN has to offer here, and update the 90's grunge look with a modern twist now!
