His Name Is Sparkle #xmasjumperstylechallenge

Jumper - c/o Beyond Retro, Shirt - Zara, Coat - Vivienne Westwood Man, Jeans - Topman, Fedora - Topman, Creepers - Underground, Clutch - Topman

As I've said many times before, I'm really not a Christmas fan. The hype, combined with multiple bad Christmases and my many years working in retail makes me less than festive this time of year. But Beyond Retro are doing their very best to turn my from an Ebenezer Scrooge to Buddy The Elf. They are doing their bit for charity by supporting Save The Children's Christmas Jumper Day, which is on December 12th. £1 of every Christmas Jumper Beyond Retro sells will go towards the charity, and they have pledged to sell £10,000 Jumpers this year. I am one of the many bloggers who have been challenged to style up the Christmas Jumper we received during the Beyond Retro Christmas Press Day and help raise awareness of Save The Children's Christmas Jumper Day. The Jumper I chose is possibly the most sparkly thing I have ever seen. I wore it to a 'gold and glitter' themed birthday party a few nights ago, and believe you me it was a hit! It's covered in massive gold sequins and really screams Christmas sparkle. I wanted to give the jumper more of a dark rock and roll edge, very much inspired by Saint Laurent. I kept all other elements of the outfit black to make it feel slick. A clean black collar under the jumper smartens the look, and black skinnies give it that modern feel. I threw my Vivienne Westwood coat over my shoulders and used a patent leather clutch . Pointed creepers are the Saint Laurent 'it' shoe, so naturally these were my first choice of footwear for the outfit. A black fedora completes the look. So make sure you do your part for Save The Children this year by buying a Christmas Jumper from Beyond Retro and wearing it on December 12th to show your support and raise awareness. Check out how other bloggers have styled up their Jumpers by searching #xmasjumperstylechallenge on Instagram and Twitter.

Review: Guystyler

Another 'not my usual' post now, this time to take a minute to tell you about the app every fashionable guy needs - Guystyler. It's a bit like Instagram, but specifically for photos of menswear. Guystyler was created to allow men to express their outfit choices and to be part of a community-led style movement. In such a female dominated sector its really refreshing to find an app like this specifically targeted to mens fashion. Guystyler is currently in it's early stages of life, but is set to be the next (and maybe only?!) big app for mens fashion. And I'm being genuine when I recommend this app as I use it regularly myself - I'm even featured in the press release haha. For me it's not only great place to promote my blog, but also a destination to get outfit inspiration from the other guys using the app. Uploading is easy, just take a photo, add a description and within seconds your photo is able to be seen by a community of thousands, either via the Guystyler app or at guystyler.com. You can also comment on and 'like' other peoples photos, which is a great gauge of how successful your outfit is! So all you fashionable men who read my blog, get on the website here, and get downloading Guystyler now!!!

His Name Is Checkmate

Shirt - Reclaimed Vintage via Asos, Gilet - Hyena, Jeans - Topman, Boots - Topman, Septum Ring - Gypsy East

I'm trying really hard to invest in strong wardrobe staples and seasonless pieces that will stand the test of time in my wardrobe. One thing I've been looking for is the perfect check flannel shirt, and thanks to Asos, I finally found it! This longline monochrome flannel shirt by Reclaimed Vintage is exactly the piece I've been looking for. I have worn it so much already, so expect to see it in lots of upcoming posts. It's such an easy piece to throw on over a pair of black jeans and is great for a casual weekend, or smartened up to wear at work. I wanted to add a bit of layering for some interest, and was going to wear my bleached denim Hyena gilet (which you may have seen before), but I wanted to keep it monochrome. Luckily my best friend has the exact same one in black, and she didn't mind me borrowing it! A pair of DM style boots finishes off this incredibly easy look. If you want a perfect staple check shirt, head to ASOS NOW!

Review: Brick Lane People by Syl Ojalla

I'm not normally one to do book reviews on my blog, however as I am ON THE COVER, I thought it would be appropriate. Obviously I can't speak highly enough of this book, as the cover is just wonderful, with such attractive people featured on it haha. Ok, ok, so a few months ago myself, fellow blogger Hackney Rose and her boyfriend were stopped in Brick Lane to have our photo taken. Little did we know that the photo would end up on the cover of a coffee table art book full of the weird and wonderful people of Brick Lane. 'Brick Lane People' is a colourful collection of images shot over a three year period exploring the fascinating pulse of the area along with some inspiring quotes and annotations. The fantastic photography really captures the aesthetic and the buzz of Brick Lane through the diversity of images used. You have everyone from street artists to shop workers to tourists in the pages of the book. Its on sale now at Brick Lane books, Rough Trade East, Whitechapel Gallery bookshop and across the world here. At a mere £14.95 it is a bargain, and you know how much I love a bargain! Below are a few of my favorite pages from the book.

His Name Is Updated

Coat - Vivienne Westwood Man, Shirt - Topman, Dungarees - Topshop, Socks - American Apparel, Shoes - Oliver Sweeney X Matthew Miller

Once upon a time I was obsessed with dungarees. I used to wear them constantly, but over time they lost their appeal - possibly because I've started wearing less and less blue denim and channeling a more monochrome look. So imagine how excited I was to find a PU dungaree in the Topshop sale for only £25! Not only a bargain, but finally a way of wearing dungarees that fits into my look now. Admittedly I wish they were real leather, but PU will do me for now, and for £25 how could I refuse?! You can't go wrong with a crisp white shirt, and short sleeves make it look a bit 'cuter' (Can leather dungarees be cute?). What with it being winter I threw on my Viv coat - the one that I now wear almost every day. On my feet I wore these amazing Oliver Sweeney X Matthew Miller cutout shoes that I bought in a sample sale a few weeks ago, and I made them more weather appropriate, and also balanced out the white of the shirt, with a pair of white socks. Lets bring back the dungaree!
